The Pallas’s cat with its golden eyes was one of the first paintings in my new Kasumi series. I wanted to create a motif that feels calm, yet still has a strong presence.
The soft transitions of grey, misty blue, and warm earthy tones are inspired by Japanese aesthetics and quiet natural scenery. Around the face, I worked with delicate details, while the background was intentionally kept more open and light.
What mattered most to me in this painting was the feeling of calmness and space. The subtle grasses and muted background make the subject appear as though it is gently emerging from the mist. Because of this, the painting changes slightly depending on the light and its surroundings.
The original was painted with acrylic on canvas and fits especially well in bright, natural, or minimalist spaces.
